Hey y’all, I’m Jessi

Why I Write

Is it too cliché to say, because I love it? Writing is the only thing I’ve ever done that I truly love.

I’ve always had a very vivid imagination. I can remember being a kid and feeling like I was going to explode if I couldn’t get my stories on paper. My love for reading started with my local library. In the summertime, my mom took us to the library every week. probably more than once. Back then you could check out VHS movies, but I digress.

I devoured stories about far-off places, adventures, and girls like me: Ramona, The Baby-Sitters Club, Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and especially those Archie comics from the grocery store. Those were my jam. I collected them. I even used to wake up in the middle of the night with lyrics in my head and write songs I was certain would be on MTV someday. (I know. I’m aging myself.)

More importantly, my mom raised my sisters and me to believe we could do anything. Her famous saying is, “If someone else can learn to do it, so can you.” I’m the youngest of four girls—and yes, at 40 years old, they still call me the baby—but Mom was right.

Keeping that motto with me (and my now-medicated ADHD), I’ve done some amazing things. I’ve pushed myself to grow, think outside the box, learn new things, and take chances I once might not have imagined for myself.

And now, at 40 years old, it has brought me back to the thing I loved first: telling stories.

I’m beginning my life as a full-time writer, and I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks for joining me on the journey.

Beyond The Page

My husband and I love to watch movies or find a good show to binge. Our two Goldendoodles love a snuggly movie night. We love to travel! Our dream is to move to Europe someday.

I love Pilates. I am actually a certified Pilates instructor. I’m from Alabama, so y’all know I love to cook, bake, and eat. Baking is my stress reliever. So there’s been lots of chocolate chip cookies since I entered the query trenches. Eek.

We’re also huge college football fans. Alabama fans to be exact. Fun fact, we both grew up going to football games with our dads. Both our dads had season tickets. My dad wanted all boys and got 4 girls instead, so he raised us on Alabama Football.

Roll Tide!
